STREET LANE PRIMARY SCHOOL – CHANGE OF SCHOOL CATEGORY TO FOUNDATION
A full Governing Body meeting was held on Wednesday 23rd November 2016 to vote on the Governing Body proposal published on Wednesday 26th October 2016 to change the category of Street Lane Primary School from a community school to a foundation school with effect from 1st January 2017 (the Proposal). Having considered responses received during the representation period, the Governing Body resolved to approve the Proposal without modification.
The reasons for this are as follows.
* Becoming a foundation school would be the best way forward for the future of the school. It will mean that the Governing Body becomes: the employer of school staff; the school’s own admissions authority; and the freehold owner of the school’s land and buildings. The Governing Body believes that this increased independence and enhanced level of responsibility will afford the necessarily flexibility to enable the school to drive up standards and the quality of the educational provision overall for the pupils.
* Foundation status will strengthen the school’s standards and ethos by further strengthening the autonomy and effectiveness of the governance and leadership.
* Becoming a foundation school is also part of the Governing Body’s strategic plan to seek greater independence for the school by becoming an academy. The Governing Body considers the school to be in a position to move forward with this strategy and believes that foundation status is an essential first stage in securing greater autonomy and opportunity.
