Welcome to Street Lane Primary school

Start of new school year!

Welcome back to the new school year! I hope that you all had a wonderful summer. During the summer the school staff have been working really hard to get everything ready, planning exciting learning opportunities and are eager to welcome the children to their new classes. Each class teacher will send you their own newsletter shortly with their routines, topics etc. We would like to warmly welcome our new families to our school. We hope that your time with us will be filled with happy memories.

We have 2 new members of staff this year. We have Mr Shipley who will be teaching in years 2/3 and 4 and Mrs Taylor who will be teaching years Y5/6 pupils. We hope that they will enjoy being part of our school team.

I am sorry to say that Mrs Lacey will not be returning to school this year. We wish her all the very best for the future.

The staff have reviewed the school’s behaviour policy. You can find the policy on the school policies page. We are adopting a reward scheme called ‘good to be green’. Children will be rewarded for their good behaviour and classes will be talking about their rewards in class with their teacher. We expect high standards of behaviour at all times so that learning can take place in a safe and secure environment.
Children will be rewarded with smiley faces, praise postcards, stickers and positive praise. It is our aim that all children are green all week and this results in weekly certificates, rewards and larger rewards at the end of each term. We pride ourselves on our children’s excellent behaviour record. However, for pupils that do not follow the rules there are consequences.
For serious incidents your child will be issued with a think slip and you will be contacted. If necessary, your child will be put on a pastoral support plan. Rest assured that these incidents are very rare at Street Lane Primary School.
We promote positive behaviour through our PSHCE curriculum which develops the emotional health of pupils. Pupils are taught that all behaviour is a choice. Relationships with adults and with pupils should be fair, honest, polite, courteous and considerate. If you have any problems or questions, please do not hesitate to speak to me.

There are forms to complete including travel arrangements, lunchtime arrangements, allergies and medical needs, pupil registration details etc. We would appreciate it if you returned the forms to the school office as soon as possible so that we can update our records.

Entrance and Exits

I would like to take this opportunity to confirm that only Miss Bestiwck’s class will use the entrance and exit at the side of the school at the start and at the end of the day. Children in Mr Shipley’s and Mrs Taylor’s class should come into school through the main door, which will be open at 8.50am. Parents are requested to let their children walk into school themselves from y2 onwards to ensure that the start of the day starts promptly at 9am. When the bell rings for the start of lessons at 9am we kindly ask that you do not walk through school. If you need to speak to a member of staff after 8.50am please make an appointment to see the class teacher with Mrs Duric (who will be on the main door), for a mutually convenient time or request that the teacher telephones you. Staff will contact you at their earliest convenience on the same day. Thank you for your support with this.
At the end of the day Mr Shipley and Mrs Taylor will bring the class out onto the playground for you to collect. Please complete the travel form attached to let us know how your child will leave school.

Uniform

Can I take this opportunity to remind you that children should wear the correct school uniform which consists of a red jumper or cardigan, white shirt, black/grey trousers or skirts, black or grey tights and sensible school shoes. We do expect all children to wear uniform at all times. If you wish to order any items, please speak to Mrs Duric in the school office.
During P.E lessons children should wear a red t shirt (school logo), black shorts or joggers and trainers. A school red hooded top or sweatshirt can be worn. This term P.E lessons will be on Thursday for Y5/6 and Fridays for Y2/3/4. Swimming will continue to be on Thursdays for children that go. We are looking for parent volunteers to go swimming on Thursday mornings at Ripley swimming baths, so, if you could help out please let us know. Thank you

Dinner money

If you pay for your child’s lunch could you please pay for the meals on the Monday that the meal/s will be eaten. All meals need to be paid for on MONDAY ONLY please. All money should be sent in a named envelope. If you do not pay for your child’s meal (not including Free school meals), please send your child with sandwiches.

I have enclosed a list of dates for your information. These dates can also be found on the school website along with any letters sent home. We will be offering an email service soon where letters can be emailed directly to you. We hope to have this up and running by the end of September.
